Sebastian Garces is 2020 BFF Male of the Year!

Sebastian Garces of Freedom High School has been named the 2020 Bethlehem Futbol Factory Male of the Year! Coach Reightler put together this wonderful write-up for the award…so I will step aside and let him present the expert coverage. Thanks coach...

Sebastian Garces has been steadily becoming not only one of the most dominating players in Bethlehem but one of the most talented offensive threats in District XI. As a freshman, Sebastian earned significant varsity minutes which culminated in scoring our only state playoff goal in a win over Spring Ford. As a sophomore he stepped into the role as our top offensive threat and led the team in both goals and assists while being named second team all EPC. This season however, Sebastian took over a leadership role as captain and helped to lead us to a 9-3 overall record and a district semifinal appearance. Additionally, this was also Sebastian’s most productive statistical season scoring 12 goals while recording 2 assists which put him at an average of one goal per game while earning first team all county honors. Sebastian shows every game that he is an all around player whose stats back up as he holds 27 goals and 22 assists over the course of his career. He was frequently man marked, and many teams put an emphasis on limiting his touches throughout the game. Even with the added attention, he put up career numbers and helped lead us to our fourth straight postseason berth. In what has been a stressful, question filled season there has always been one consistent piece that you could count on at Freedom, that if Seba was on the field we always had a chance to win. We look forward to seeing him back next year, as Sebastian will lead a team that will be returning nearly everyone from a shortened successful season and whose expectations both at the individual and team level are the highest they’ve ever been.

Sebastian is the second Freedom High School player to win the award. He also led Freedom to their 4th consecutive BFF Bowl crowning the top soccer high school in Bethlehem. Congratulations Sebastian! We are looking forward to seeing what you have in store for your senior year in the fall of 2021!
